When you buy your First Class ticket you’ll be given a designated seat. There are six seats in each compartment, three face forwards and three face backwards. Two of them are window seats. You can ask at the ticket office for your preferred seat and, on the train, if your compartment isn’t full you can switch seats, but once the compartment starts to fill up you must move to your designated seat.
The only way to avoid being stuck with a seat you don’t like is to travel Second Class.
